Lobsang Sangay
Lobsang Sangay is a Lecturer and Senior Visiting Fellow at Harvard Law School. He previously served two terms (2011–2021) as the democratically elected Sikyong (President) of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile.
He holds a B.A. and LL.B. from Delhi University, and an LL.M. (’95) and S.J.D. (’04) from Harvard Law School, where he received the Yong K. Kim ’95 Memorial Prize for excellence in his doctoral dissertation.
Recognized as one of the Young Leaders of Asia by the Asia Society (2006), Dr. Sangay has published widely and written op-eds for The New York Times, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. He has appeared on major international networks including BBC and CNN.
His awards include the Gold Medal for Outstanding Contribution to Public Discourse (Trinity College Dublin, 2014) and the Presidential Medal for Distinguished Community Leadership (Salisbury University, 2015). He played a key role in the passage of the Tibetan Policy and Support Act of 2020 by the U.S. Government.
He is currently writing Democracy in Exile and co-editing Geopolitics of Reincarnation and the Institution of the Dalai Lama.
